How to Secure Your Tethering Cable: Clamps, Holders & Locks

Your camera port is one of the most vulnerable parts of your setup. A single cable pull — from a moving assistant, a foot catching the cable, or simply repositioning your shot — puts direct force into that port. Over time, that force cracks solder joints, loosens connectors, and eventually kills the port entirely.

The solution isn't more careful cable management. The solution is removing the force from the port completely.

Why Tethering Cables Disconnect (and Damage Cameras)

A standard USB-C connector sits flush against your camera body. When the cable is pulled in any direction, 100% of that force transfers into the port. Modern mirrorless cameras are precision instruments not designed to absorb repeated mechanical stress at the connector.

The symptoms are gradual: intermittent disconnections, then slower transfer speeds, then a port that only connects at a specific angle. By then, you're looking at an expensive repair or a camera out of commission during a critical shoot.

The Cable Clamp Approach

A cable clamp attaches to your camera body and provides a secondary anchor point for the tethering cable. The key variables:

  • Mount compatibility — most professional clamps mount via the Arca-Swiss quick-release system.
  • Material — plastic clamps flex under repeated stress. CNC aluminum holds its geometry indefinitely.
  • Cable routing — the best designs route the cable exit 90 degrees away from the port.

The Loloboo Tethering Block

CNC-machined from 6061 aircraft-grade aluminum, it mounts to any Arca-Swiss compatible quick-release plate. The Block locks the cable in position, routing the cable exit cleanly away from the port. Zero cable tension reaches the camera's USB-C port, regardless of cable movement. The laser-engraved finish means it looks as considered as the rest of your kit.

The Right System

The most reliable tethered setup combines: a cable with an L-shaped camera-end connector, a cable block that locks the cable to the camera body, and a cable with built-in signal boosting for runs over 3 meters. The Loloboo system does all three.
