A messy cable setup is more than an aesthetic problem. It's a safety hazard, a workflow disruptor, and a signal to clients that your studio isn't running at the level it should be. Clean cable management takes 10 minutes to set up correctly and saves hours of frustration across every shoot.
The Core Problem
A 5-meter tethering cable has to span from your shooting position to your laptop or tethering cart. In a live shoot, that cable is constantly moving. Without intentional routing, it ends up across the floor, under feet, and creating tension at the camera port.
Rule 1: Route Up, Not Across
Clip the tethering cable to a C-stand leg, route it up to C-stand arm height, then back down to camera position. The cable is off the floor, out of the shooting area, and won't catch on anything moving through the set.
Rule 2: Secure the Cable at the Camera
Floor routing only works if the cable is also secured at the camera body. Without a secondary anchor, cable movement creates tension at the USB-C port — and over hundreds of sessions, that tension causes port damage.

Rule 3: Leave the Right Amount of Slack
Too tight: cable pulls taut when you move to your working position. Too loose: excess cable loops on the floor. The right amount of slack lets you work through your full shooting radius without the cable going taut.
Rule 4: Store the Cable Properly
A kinked cable is a damaged cable. Use the over-under coiling technique: alternate the direction of each loop to create a natural coil that lays flat and unspools without tangles. The Loloboo cable ships with two velcro cable ties for storage coiling.
